Policies
  1. Purpose:   This list was established on April 14, 1992 as an non-commercial, international electronic forum for anyone using or interested in using the bibliographic textbase software program ProCite and its companion Biblio-Link programs, now published by Thomson ResearchSoft. These software programs provide the means to automate a wide variety of scholarly tasks related to the retrieval, organization, and use of bibliographic data. They operate on the Windows, MS-DOS, and Macintosh platforms. The discussion group is intended to provide a free forum for discussion that will facilitate the rapid sharing of concerns, interests, problems and solutions among all those who use these programs.

  2. Membership Participation in an unmoderated list:  ProCite is a "closed", "unmoderated", and "unrestricted" discussion list.  Closed means that only members can post messages, unmoderated means that all messages from all members are automatically distributed, and unrestricted means that anyone can subscribe.  This arrangement allows for the widest participation while preventing the most common abuses (such as the broadcasting of commercial or private messages to the list via internet usegroups by those who really have no direct interest in ProCite software issues)  However, fur such a list to continue serving the needs of its members, each member needs to take on the responsibility of communicating his or her own interests, needs, and knowledge in a relevant manner.  The fact that neither membership nor messages are monitored does NOT mean that the List Owner doesn't read all the messages posted to the list or that he/she doesn't participate in the discussion.  It DOES mean that such a list such as this one, focused as it on technical and scholarly questions about the use of a particular software product and associated products, does not need an editor to preview and organize postings.  So far, this policy has resulted in a continued high level of discussion focused on the true needs of its participants.  It is up to you, the members of the ProCite list, to maintain this high level of discourse.

  3. Indiana University support of Electronic Discussion Lists:  University Information Technology Services provides the computer space and software to support ListServ lists as a service to the research oriented needs of all Indiana University faculty, staff, and graduate students. Our List Administrator provides Email support at list-admin@indiana.edu.

The Indiana University Libraries supports the administration of electronic discussion lists as a professional activity of its faculty and staff. However, neither of these organizations verify the accuracy of submitted messages or endorse the opinions expressed by authors of messages. The list owner will attempt to monitor this particular list and help keep it focused on problems related to personal bibliographic software issues, but authors of ProCite messages are considered to be solely responsible for their own comments.

  4. Thomson ResearchSofts Participation on the ProCite List: Several staff members of Thomson ResearchSoft (producers of ProCite and Biblio-Link) have joined this list and do contribute to the discussions from time to time by answering general questions and by contributing their own, personal expertise. HOWEVER, for strictly commercial and technical support questions, members of this list and others should contact Thomson ResearchSoft directly.
